Review: Overlord (1975)

An utterly absorbing British drama about a new recruit going through training, leading up to D-Day. The narrative seamlessly blends with fascinating newsreel footage (London burning during the Blitz, dizzying aerial footage, and D-Day preparations--much of which I'd never seen and looks amazing on the big screen) to give Overlord the haunting feeling of a living documentary. Surreal dream sequences punctuate the mood throughout. [****1/2 out of 5]
